Privacy Policy
This policy states plainly what information the compendium desk receives, why it is held, and how a reader may ask about it. It governs the whole of the Matrix Distribution Math Reference.
Overview
The reference is a body of reading material. A reader may consult every essay without revealing any personal detail. Information reaches the desk only when a reader chooses to send it, and the desk treats what is sent with restraint.
What is received
When a message is sent through the contact page, the desk receives the name, reply address, subject and message supplied by the reader. No other personal detail is sought, and none is required. A letter or a spoken enquiry supplies whatever the sender chooses to include.
Why it is held
Correspondence is held so that it may be answered and, where a correction is accepted, so that the editorial record may note it. A message is not used for any other end. The desk does not build profiles of readers and does not combine messages from one reader with those of another.
How long it is kept
A message is kept for as long as is needed to answer it and to record any correction that follows. Once both ends are met, the message is set aside. A reader may ask that a message be removed sooner, and the desk will honour a reasonable request.
Sharing
The desk does not sell, trade or lend correspondence. It does not pass a message to any outside party, save where the law compels it, and it would say so to the reader were that ever to occur.
Your choices
- You may write to the desk without giving a name, if you prefer.
- You may ask what has been held about you and receive an account of it.
- You may ask for a correction to anything the desk holds about you.
- You may ask for a message to be removed once it has been answered.
Questions
Any question about this policy may be put to the Compendium Office at the address on the contact page, by letter, by telephone or by electronic mailbox. The desk will answer in the same register in which the question arrives, and will explain any point that is unclear.
A closing note
The reference is academic, and the desk keeps its practice to match. It holds no more than it needs, for no longer than it needs, and for no end beyond answering the reader who wrote.
What is not held
The reference keeps no register of visitors, no account of which essays are read, and no history of a reader's visits. It holds no address book drawn from its correspondence, and it builds no picture of a reader from the messages that arrive. The only material kept is the message itself, and it is kept for the single purpose of answering it.
A note on children
The reference is written for adult readers and is not directed at children. No personal detail is sought from any reader, and none is sought from the young. Should a message arrive from a reader who is evidently a minor, the desk will answer the substance of the enquiry and will keep no more than the reply itself requires.
